Towards the Light!

The pupil of Oidy is a symbol of the soul. It is not something I invented, although I arrived at this understanding intuitively, without prior knowledge.
In English it is called pupil, because it is there — when we look into another’s eyes — that our own face appears, reflected like a miniature, the essence of a person. The same idea exists in iridology, an ancient diagnostic practice in which the state of a human being is read from the eyes.

Black and universal to all humans and animals, though taking many shapes, it has none of its own. In truth, it has no form. It is a hole through which light is received. A black hole. There are theories suggesting that black holes function like pupils: absorbing reality while at the same time projecting it,
as if they were gateways between dimensions — between the inner and the outer world, the spiritual and the material.

The soul has no name, no history, no personality. It is a bubble that seemingly to separates from the shared self in order to set out on the journey of lived experience. This painting speaks of that very moment — when a small fragment of the boundless absolute begins its journey towards the light of life. It is also the moment marked by the winter solstice, when from the darkest point we begin to move back towards the light. Rebirth, reincarnation, and between them – death – a natural part of existance.

Darkness, so often rejected, demonised and feared, is in fact our first home — a cosmic womb, total dissolution, belonging, freedom from ego, love.

In the East it is known as Yin —
the feminine energy of the universe: receptive, tender, deep.

From it we come. To it we return when the journey reaches its end.

From a human perspective, I cannot comprehend existence without what I call myself — my character, my memories and dreams, my body. And yet, somewhere deep within, I sense that this is how it is: that there is a part of me that exists beyond all of this, and that it is this part that is divine, immortal, eternal.
This knowledge fills me with peace.
